2009 Working Incidents
Significant Fire/EMS/Rescue
With credit given to Local 93's
Working Incident's page,
I am trying to assemble a timeline of incidents beginning this year to be
published in a blog-type format.
If you are involved in an incident worthy of
submission (working fire, major MVA/trauma, HASRT, etc.) please submit a brief
submit the following info at minimum: 1. DATE & TIME OF DAY (mm/dd/yy), 2.
LOCATION, 3. RESPONDING UNITS, 4. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT & UNUSUAL
CIRCUMSTANCES, 5. PHOTOS
(if available).
2010 Incidents

01/07/2010 C shift 0318hrs. 908 E.222nd.
Euclid Blue Print, structure fire. L1,R1,E2,R2,E3,R3 and C23.

| "Georgetown Condo, Fully
Involved" 01/31/2010
A Shift, 1859 hrs 5 Richmond Sq (Georgetown
Condos). E2, R2, L1,R1, C23 initial response (E3,R3 on EMS
run). Fully involved building fire, MABAS box 1311 from
Wickliffe, Willowick, South Euclid. E3, C21, R3 (RIT)
responded. Off duty EFD personnel recalled.
Structure was a total loss. |

"Euclid
Firefighter/Paramedics Rescue Family From Carbon Monoxide"
02/21/2010 A shift 2110hrs. 26968 Oriole E3 and R3 check
for possible odor/male not feeling well. Turned into CO
incident. Gas company called. EFD found 800 ppm in found in home
caused by faulty boiler damper. 2 Victims transported to Euclid
Hospital. Pt’s transferred to hyperbaric chamber for
detoxification. Both pts would of not have survived the night. Great
job by crews. Occult CO poisoning was diagnosed by paramedics
using our RAD-57 CO-Oximeters.

Lakeland" 3/10/2010
B shift 0400hrs. Half-ton pickup vs. mini van. Driver
of mini-van dead on arrival. Coroner called, recovery by
EFD L1 crew. Other victim treated by R1- transported and
released from Euclid Hospital. |

4/20/10 B shift 1446hrs. E3,R3,L1,E2,R1 and C23 to 25531
Lakeland Blvd. B107 Apartment Fire. E3 attack, E 2 outside vent
and search, L 1 topside vent.

5/02/2010
B shift 0830hrs Lakeland at E 222 single car MVA car vs
pole, entrapment with 20 minute extrication. Transport to
Hillcrest. E2, R2, C23 |

5/7/2010 1238 hrs A-Shift, 24451
Lakeshore Blvd. #1110 E3, R3, L1, R1,E2, C23. Heavy smoke from
bedroom window on arrival, E3 attack, Capt Haddock's first day
back as OIC, Good Job Chris. Welcome Back! |

| "MVA Rollover, Entrapment"
5/7/2010 1519 A Shift, North Lakeland near
E 200. L1, R1, R2, C23. 9 occupants in vehicle, 1
adult & 8 children. Triage performed, 1 unrestrained child
to RB&C. Vehicle Rolled 3 times, the fact that there were
no serious injuries is a miracle. |

5/14/2010 0212hrs A shift 24455 Lakeshore #1716.
L1, R1, E2,R2, C 23. Numerous calls, heavy smoke on 17th
floor. Willowick engine mutual aid, EFD manning at 15, one
engine out of service. |

| "Garage Fire with Exposures"
A Shift 5/26/10 20570 Wilmore Ave. 0340hrs
Working garage fire, damage to 4 exposures. C23 & R1 first
on scene, 14 men on duty. Had to await E2 for hoseline to
protect exposures and extinguish fire. Station 1 first due
fire apparatus out of service. Station 2 & Station 3
responded. Luckily this was not an occupied house fire.

"Apt. Kitchen
Fire, Heavy Damage"
A-Shift; 5-31-10 @ 1934; 27151 Sidney #43; kitchen fire w/
smoke/heat damage to remainder of apartment. E3, L1, E2, R1,
R2, C23 responded. Unattended food-on-stove; $30,000 in damage

shift 1541 E. 219 E2, L1, R1(In place of R2), E3, C23 Heavy
smoke from second story windows. E2 fast attack. L1,R1
search/assist stretch. E3 vent.

Working kitchen fire. Heavy damage. Good stop by E3.

E. 200 L1, R1, C23. 17 Y/O GSW to chest. Transported to Huron.

A-shift June 21, 2010,
2340 Hrs. E2,C23,L1,R1,E3 to 1541 E. 219, house fire, 2nd
floor, smoke showing on arrival, E2 attack.

1800hrs. Priday Ave. Fully involved garage fire with multiple
exposures. L1, R1, E2, R2, E3, R3, C23. |

|
01/05/09 0941 hours, crews sent to 24455 LSB #918 apt. fire
w/ victim trapped. Victim pulled from fire apartment by neighbor
before EFD arrived on fire floor. Fire knocked w/ 4 dry chem
extinguishers by maintenance. Heavy damage to kitchen. Units on
scene: E3, R3, L1, E2, C23, (R1 for manpower). |
08/24/09 0652hrs. B shift. MVA with rollover. I-90E at E.200th
E2, R2 and C23. Victim extricated and transported to Trauma center. |

08/28/09 A shift 1225hrs. Basement Fire. E2,R2,E3,L1,R1& C23 to
2101 Miami. E2 found dryer on fire in basement. Heavy smoke conditions
in basement. Fire knocked down with water can.

01/11/09 C shift 1531hrs. 115 E.209 House Fire. Fire in
bathroom. L1,R1,E3,E2, and C23. Smoke damage |
9/01/09; 0545 hrs., 19250 Pasnow; Kitchen Fire; L1 R1 E2 E3 C23;
initial report of person trapped; all occupants accounted for on
arrival; L1 knocked down w/ water can

01/10/09 A shift 0747hrs I-90EB at Euclid Ave Semi Truck on
Fire.E2,E3,R1,R2 C23 and Wickliffe Fire. Fully involved cab of truck.
Shut down freeway, foam used by Wickliffe FD.

Lakeshore. Harbor Crest #608 Apartment Fire.E3, R3, L1, E2, R2 and
C23. Kitchen on fire, reports of heavy smoke on 6th
floor.E3/R3 attack. L1 backup/search. E2&R2 vent. C23 in command.
9/20/09 (C) @ 1413; 22671 Shore Center; deck fire next to
building, no extension to interior L1 R1 E3 E2 C23 controlled with one
line.

hours, crews sent to 26555 Mallard for basement fire, E3 first due,
found same and achieved quick knockdown; L1 vented basement windows
and checked for extension; E2 searched. Units on scene: E3, R3, L1,
E2, C23. Severe ice build-up and single digit temps during the fire.

9/30/09 A-shift 2130 hrs E226 & Euclid Ave.MVA 4
casualties.
Rapid triage and extrication, 4 victims transported to trauma centers.

01/18/09 A shift 2306hrs.145 Sunnycliff House Fire.E3,E2,R3,L1
and C23. Fire in basement ceiling under fireplace, Ceiling opened up.
Fire found in rafters.

11/04/09 C
shift 1702hrs. 471 Clearview. Basement fire. L1,R1,E2,R2,E3,R3, & C23.
11/11/09 A shift 0833hrs.
21991 Roberts. Reported House Fire. L1,R1,E3,R3,E2,C23,C21,C22 &C25.
Kitchen fully involved with extension. No injuries. One pet died in
fire. Heavy fire/smoke damage to home

01/26/09 C shift 2121hrs. E2 to 10 Erie St. Eastlake MABAS
Fire in building E2 assist crews.

11/12/09
B shift 1641hrs.23749 Lakeshore Blvd. 8 y.o. pedestrian struck. Trauma
to RB&C. Child died 3 days later from injuries. |

1/30/09 0307 hours, crews sent to 21775 Edgecliff for mattress
fire. L1 first due and found fully involved bedroom fire w/ fire
venting from windows and skylight; room knocked down and room
hydraulically ventilated; minor extension to attic space. Units on
scene: L1, R1, E3, E2, C23, (R3 for manpower). 13" of snow on ground
w/ severe ice build-up during the incident. |
12/12/09 B shift 1133hrs. 27081 Elinore. Reported as a Garage
Fire. E3, R3, L1, R1, E2, and C23. Fully involved 2 car garage/car.
Home owner was temporarily trapped when garage door came down.
Victim dove threw window to exit garage. Treated on scene for
lacerations. Garage was a total loss.

2/11/09 A shift “3 House”. Running strong! All night long!
16 runs total, 9runs after 2330hrs. What a night

12-24-09 A shift 0206hrs. E3,R3, EPD, and C23 to 23335
Williams. SUV into house. One pt. transported to Euclid Er. with a
leg injury. SUV was a totaled. Moderate damage to home.

3/20/09 B shift 1454hrs. 24455 LSB. Fire on balcony.
E3,E2,L1,R3,and C23. Found fire #1504 balcony, E3 extinguished. |

3/25/09 A shift 1700hrs. MVA Rollover with ejection. SR 2 at
split I-90 E. R3, E3 and C23. One pt. to Hillcrest trauma.

4/14/09 A shift 0428hrs. 1490 E.193 #425 Working Apartment
Fire. Fire in bedroom. E2,E3,L1,R2,R1,R3, and C23. Smoke was showing
from window on arrival. E2 attack encountered water problem initially,
had very low pressure ‘’garden hose” pressure. E2 Line was cleared
when back up line by L1 was charged. After fire E2 tip was checked, it
was found to be clogged with debris from standpipe. (EFD has
since switched to smoothbore apt packs)

hours, crews sent to 21800 Tungsten (GE Plant) for hydrogen leak.
Crews staged defensively and plant personnel advised to let gas bleed
off. Ignition sources around the leak were removed and/or shut off by
plant personnel. Over 200,000 cubic feet of hydrogen released under
high pressure into the air before gas could be shut off. Supply hose
ruptured causing leak.

4/27/09 A shift 1734hrs. E3 to 1558 Empire Wickliffe MABAS
box. House fire.
|
|
|
04/28/09 B shift 2305hrs.B shift 24444 Garden #709 Natural Gas
leak. L1,R1,E3,E2, & C23. Male high on "wet" attacks 2
firefighters, and tried to place infant son in stove. Also
attempted to ignite natural gas in apartment. Male is being charged
with attempted murder, assault, arson, kidnapping.

5/01//09 B shift 2101hrs.764 E.256th Kitchen Fire.
E3,E2,R3,L1 and C23.

5/24/09 A shift 1846hrs 1466 Knuth Fire in locker room.
E3,E2,L1, R3 and C23. Smoke showing from eaves on arrival. E3 pulled
matty. Fire in check by sprinkler head. Damage contained to
locker Fire burned through ceiling and started running up plumbing
chase. Good stop by all crews. |

5/25/09 B shift 2230hrs. E3 to 27080 Tungsten on working Dog
House Fire. Good job boys! |

06/04/09 1933 hours, crews sent to 25454 Euclid for fire in #531.
E2 first due and found working fire in #333. Quick knock by E2, E3
assisted w/ getting first line in service. L1 opened roof hatches and
searched #4 floor and #433 for extension. None found. Crews on
scene: E2, R2, E3, E6 as L1, C23, (R3, R1 for manpower). Wickliffe
Ladder 1519 requested for mutual-aid due to both ladder trucks being
OOS for mechanical issues, but released shortly after arrival on
scene.

6/09/09 B shift 2009hrs Car vs. Motorcycle. Highland & Euclid
Ave. 2 Major Trauma pts. to Huron Rd. E2, R2, R1, and C23 on scene.
update: due to excellent trauma care by Euclid EMS and Huron
ED one pt was harvested for multiple organ donations.
6/10/09 C shift 1740hrs.MVA car flipped, 2 victims pulled from
car . Car fully involved, up against building, & wires down.E2, R2,
E3, R3, R1,C23 and mutual aid squad from Wickliffe.

Working Fire A shift 1657 hrs. 712 E.266th kitchen fire,
smoke showing from eaves on arrival. E3 went fast attack. E3,L1,E2,
R1,R3, and C23. Roof was opened up. |

6/19/2009 C shift 0001hrs R1& L1 to 291 E.222nd GSW
17yo Male shot in leg. R1 transport to Huron Rd.

Working Fire A shift 0442hrs. 1380 E.276th #161 bedroom
fire, heavy smoke showing from bedroom window. E3 went fast attack.
Aggressive attack by E3 crew put stop on fire. L1 crew vented windows
and stated heavy flames were showing from window after ventilation.

Shooting A shift 26610 Lakeshore Blvd. Euclid Mart Male shot twice in
lower legs. E3,R1 and C23. Major blood loss. Level 1 trauma to Huron
Rd. Good job by E3 and R1 crews to stabilize pt. enroute to ER. |

7/20/09 A shift 0857hrs. MVA rollover I-90W @E.200th.
2 victims trapped. Extrication with jaws/cutter. Trauma to Huron Rd.
E3, R3,R1 and C23 on scene.

Lakeland Blvd. SUV vs Pole. Trauma arrest. L1,R1, R3, E2, and C23.
Victim extricated from vehicle in full arrest. Major chest trauma. |
